THE BULLITT CENTER

The groundbreaking Bullitt Center is the world’s first mid-rise multi-tenant commercial building to seek the highly ambitious Living Building Challenge certification. As a teaching building, the project was designed to advance performance-based design, share knowledge gained, and remove code barriers to advanced sustainability.Hired in 2008 by the Bullitt Foundation, the developer led every phase of the project’s execution, including site acquisition, program development, entitlement, consultant selection, design, permitting, and construction management. Development of the project required creation of new zoning legislation and the creation of a Technical Advisory Group to guide technical review of the project by the Design Review Board. In addition, agency approval and legislation in support of ‘project firsts’ were secured at the City, County and State levels. Opening on Earth Day in 2013, the project continues to draw national and international attention.
